IUY and NIHR Dementia Awareness Workshop

To promote health awareness and reduce the risks of chronic conditions in our community, the Igbo Union Yorkshire CIC collaborated with the National Institute for Health and Social Care Research to deliver a dementia awareness workshop as part of this year's Dementia Action Week (May 19-25, 2025).

This partnership involved the DEMCOMM researchers from Applied Research Collaboration Yorkshire and Humber, led by Dr Emmanuel S. Nwofe and Clare Mason from the University of Bradford. The workshop focused on dementia risk awareness and how lifestyle changes could reduce the risk in our communities.

The event attracted over 70 participants and included enjoyable traditional African dance and cuisine, making it both educational and culturally enriching. The workshop provided valuable insights into understanding dementia, its risk factors, and practical strategies for maintaining brain health throughout life.

This collaboration represents our commitment to promoting health awareness within our community and working with leading research institutions to bring evidence-based health information directly to our members and the wider community.
